Attendance & KioskQuick member search

Quick member search

The kiosk’s quick search is optimized for high-volume Sundays. The goal is for a member to find their name, mark attendance, and release the kiosk in under 5 seconds.

How it works

  1. The member taps Mark me here.
  2. They start typing their name or last name.
  3. Starting at the second character, suggestions appear.
  4. They tap their name.
  5. Confirm with a big “I’m here” button.
  6. The screen says thanks and returns to home in 2 seconds.

Search algorithm

The search prioritizes:

  1. Exact prefix match on first or last name.
  2. Typo tolerance (1-letter Levenshtein).
  3. Frequency: members who attended in the last 4 weeks rank higher.
  4. Family: if a household member already marked, siblings rise.

Family attendance

If the member came with their family, no need to repeat the flow per person:

  1. After finding themselves, “Did you come with your family?” appears.
  2. The list shows household members.
  3. Tap who came and confirm.
  4. All marked with a single tap.

For minors, the flow continues into child check-in.

Every member has a personal QR available on their mobile app profile. Scanning it at the kiosk skips the search and jumps to confirmation. See QR capture.

If the member doesn’t appear

Possible causes:

  • Scoped to another campus (the kiosk only searches their campus).
  • Their status is departed or deceased (intentional: not shown at kiosk).
  • They exist but as a prospect, not a member. The search finds prospects too — they’re marked with an orange dot.

If none of that applies, use “I’m a first-time visitor” and the system will detect the duplicate so staff can resolve it later.

Privacy

The kiosk search in PIN mode only shows full name and photo (if any). No phone, email, or address. Full search is available in admin mode.
